Frosting

Frosting

1920 1280 Robin Merrill

I have never been able
to get a cake to fall
out of the pan
in one piece.

I’ve needed something sweet,
something of sustenance to seep
down into those fractures,
those veins, bind and cure and

create, so that when it is complete
and ready to serve
the world, it is one in a million,
an individual, and whole.
